Daniel Day-Lewis to Play Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg: "

Well I'm guessing this project just shot up the list of highly anticipated movies for a lot of people out there. Steven Spielberg has been trying to set up a movie based on the political career of The Great Emancipator himself, Abraham Lincoln, for quite a while now, but ran into some complications earlier this year when Liam Neeson, who had been signed on for the lead role, dropped out of the project. Fortunately, I think it's safe to say they have found a worthy replacement in the form of four-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner Daniel Day-Lewis. The man chooses his roles very carefully, so he clearly must have a lot of faith in the project. Now if they could just get him to star in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as well!

Spielberg officially signed on to direct Robopocalypse last month, but he seems to always prefer having two projects on the go. This film, entitled simply Lincoln, will shoot first, heading into production in fall 2011 with a probable holiday 2012 release.

Based on the book Team of Rivals by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the movie will focus on 'the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.'
The screenplay was written by Tony Kushner (Munich). Sally Field was attached to play Honest Abe's wife Mary Todd Lincoln, but it's unclear if she is still involved. Either way, with DDL in the lead, I think we're all going to be seeing this movie in a whole new light."
