Why Bungie's Deal With Activision Lasts 10 Years: They Have A Plan: "

The Future Of Bungie -- Halo Creator Talks New Games And Signing With Activision

It's one thing to sign a publishing agreement for a new game, it's quite another to propose one that lasts an entire decade. Yet, Bungie and Activision announced a 10-year partnership yesterday morning. It didn't take long for people to start wondering about the 10-year marker.

In an interview conducted just hours after the news began making the rounds, I asked Bungie's community and franchise director Brian Jarrard to explain why the studio chose 10 years.

Basically, Bungie wanted a plan of attack. They didn't want to make it up as they go along, which happened with Halo. The original's success forced them to messily ask themselves the sequel question. Here, Bungie's just assuming their new franchise will be a success and planning accordingly.

"We basically spent about a decade on Halo thus far," said Jarrard, "in terms of that universe and the types of experiences and stories that we've told, and we're looking at the next decade in a similar way, in terms of building a universe and a framework that we think is gonna live for a long time and is gonna spawn a lot of interesting stories and experiences for our fans."

"Halo didn't start that way," he continued, "and we learned an awful, awful lot about all of this stuff. Our studio today has learned so much through the last decade working on Halo, just in terms of not owning that IP, what that's meant for our creative people and the relationship with Microsoft and how that's worked out for us. Not having that plan and having to retroactively kind of squeeze stuff in, we've learned a lot of, and we think that we can do even better if we have a really good vision going into it of how these things fit together. "

Even Bungie admits their plan sounds a bit...insane. But to get a publisher like Activision to sign up for their ambitious vision, it required Bungie to map out what's happening in the future.

"We kind of have a 10-year plan," he said. "It's not arbitrary. We already have things that are scheduled out, as crazy as it is to think about, and, like, how old my kids will be in 10 years, but we have that stuff all scheduled out, and we have a pretty good plan that we believe in, and where we're going to take fans over the course of a decade, and how they're going to experience this new universe."

Now, we just need to find out what makes up that 10-year plan.

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Actor Daniel Logan On Bringing Back Boba Fett

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Actor Daniel Logan On Bringing Back Boba Fett: "

Daniel Logan was just 13 years old when he introduced 'Star Wars' fans across the world to a young Boba Fett in 2002, in 'Attack of the Clones.' Now, 10 years later, he's back to voice a teenage version of the notorious bounty hunter-to-be in the three episode arc that will close the third season of 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars.' We got our first look last Friday; the season closes tonight with an hour's worth of episodes focusing on Boba and his bounty hunting pals.

For his part, Logan enjoys the opportunity to further develop this character he first played almost a decade ago. 'He had his father all throughout Episode II. He was more or less confused,' Logan explained. 'He was like any child, he wants to be by his father's side and always be backing his father no matter if he's in the wrong or in the right.' Some years have passed now; the last time we saw young Boba, he was broken up over see his father beheaded by Jedi Master Mace Windu. Years later, the changes wrought on him in that moment are still rippling outwards.

'Now [on 'The Clone Wars'], he's transitioned into being almost a solo character trying to create his own individual family base, his own group of people... to try to figure his way around the galaxy,' Logan continued. 'He's still a little confused, but I see him as more of a vengeful, determined character.'

Vengeful is certainly right. In last week's episode, Boba followed through on a plot to kill Windu, planting a bomb in his quarters aboard a Republic cruiser. Unfortunately, the one question I desperately want an answer to is so spoiler-y, Logan didn't really want to touch it: will we see Boba put on his armor tonight? Or at least wield a disintegrator?

'Anytime Boba returns to the screen or the cartoon, it's always going to be a big impact,' Logan said. 'I guess we're just going to have to wait and see where Boba Fett goes in [switching from] the old jumpsuit to the armor. I don't want to ruin it for anybody.'

He doesn't leave us completely hanging though: 'I can say we're going to be able to expect a whole lot of blasting and Boba Fett going through the galaxy, terrorizing all the Jedi.' Sounds good to me.

That leaves just one more question. What's up with Boba Fett's lameass death in 'Return of the Jedi,' when an errant swinging stick shorts out his jetpack and sends him hurtling into the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine.

'I came up with my theory, that Boba Fett was sick that day,' Logan explained. 'As we all know, if you have a cold, you're coughing. And the moisture in the helmet would have [fogged up the visor], so it would've been hard to see.'

I'll take it. Tune in to Cartoon Network tonight for the two-part season finale of 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars.'

EXCLUSIVE: Boba Fett, Bossk And Aurra Sing Pose For Awesome 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Art: "

Tonight is the night 'Star Wars' fans have been waiting for. As 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' wraps up its second season, we'll get an even deeper look into the life of young Boba Fett, voiced by 'Attack of the Clones' actor Daniel Logan. This has, by most accounts, been an ante-raising season for the series. The focus is still on an all-ages range of viewers and the half-hour runtime is generally too short for most of the stories, but we've seen more multi-episode arcs, more fan service and higher quality 'Star Wars' action than the debut season delivered.

It all comes to an end (until the fall, that is) tonight with one full hour of Boba Fett-centric episodes. To celebrate the end-with-a-bang season capper, the talented folks at Lucasfilm put together this gorgeous piece of art for us to debut here on MTV Movies Blog. There's a tease of it in the header image above; the full image can be found after the break. Also, stay tuned for coverage from our interview with Logan, which you'll be able to find here later today.

More on Why You Need ProBlogger the Book [Video Tips and Bonuses]: "

It’s been a couple of days since we launched the 2nd edition of ProBlogger the book and I’m hearing from many of readers who bought a copy that they’re finding parcels with it enclosed in their mail boxes.

The above video was produced by our publishers (Wiley) and is both a preview of the book but also holds some tips for bloggers from my co-author, Chris Garrett and I (filmed in Austin earlier in the year – one of the few times Chris and I have met in person).

In it we talk about some of the new stuff in the book but also talk about the challenges and benefits of blogging as well as each sharing 3-4 tips for bloggers wanting to make a living from the medium. View the video at full size here.

Bonuses for Owners of the Book

In my post earlier in the week when I launched the 2nd edition I mentioned some bonuses for those who buy it yet I failed to mention what they were. There are a growing numbers of bonuses included.

The bonus area includes:

Jonah Hex Trailer Starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox

Jonah Hex Trailer Starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox: "jonahhextrailer

At long last, we finally have proof that the Jonah Hex movie actually exists! Unfortunately, the first trailer for this comic book flick doesn't really prove much else. It's a bit hard to get a fair read on the film since the trailer seems to evoke a lot of other movies, such as Ghost Rider (not the worst thing in the world), Van Helsing (getting worse) and Wild Wild West (definitely not good for business). The main problem as I see it is that the movie does not seem to be embracing the western element at all, and with all the machine guns, hard rock music and slick action scenes, it feels too modern for its own good.

Then again, I know very little about the comic, so maybe I'm way off base here. Josh Brolin seems pretty bland in the lead role, but I like to think that he'll bring something more to the table. Megan Fox is clearly being played up as one of the main selling points of the film, but I'm wondering if a lot of people will actually have an adverse reaction to her (for starters, her accent is horrible). The supporting cast includes John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Michael Shannon, and Will Arnett. Jonah Hex hit theatres on June 18th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Madden 11 videos chant new 'Simpler, Quicker, Deeper' design mantra

Madden 11 videos chant new 'Simpler, Quicker, Deeper' design mantra: "
'Simpler, Quicker, Deeper.' That's the tag line for Madden 11, as EA appears to be angling for the attention of the unsophisticated, no-time-to-waste 'casual' demographic without dissuading its hardcore player base. The new Madden will be made both 'simpler' and 'quicker' through GameFlow, the buzzword for an optional auto-play calling mode, which puts players in the role of a quarterback that receives his plays from an AI coach. 'Not everyone has an hour to dedicate,' says senior producer Phil Frazier, alluding to the average length of a typical Maddden match. GameFlow is said to shave down match times to 30 minutes.

But fear not, bro, Madden also goes 'deeper' this year with the option to create custom game plans before each match. Plus, there's another buzzword to memorize: Locomotion. That's the name for the game's 'all new' animation system. While still short of the highs achieved by the Euphoria-powered animations of Backbreaker, there is a gameplay component to Madden's Locomotion system: Players can now lean and dodge during runs with the analog sticks.

According to the trailer, Madden 11 'will make every football game before it obsolete.' (At least, GameStop's trade-in value will certainly reflect this sentiment.) Check out the dev diaries after the break, if you're not yet sufficiently pumped up for game day: August 10.

Halo: Reach Interview: Multiplayer Beta Details

Facebook Suggests Pages to Like for New Users

Facebook Suggests Pages to Like for New Users: "

According to various reports, Facebook is showing some new users “suggested pages.” Similar to earlier incarnations of Twitter’s Suggested Users List, the Facebook suggestions mostly revolve around celebrities.

These pages are accompanied by the text, “Connect with your favorite celebrities, businesses and brands to hear the latest news from them.”

We tried to replicate this experience ourselves, but Facebook must be A/B or multivariate testing this feature, because we didn’t see any suggested interests or pages. We did, however, see that pages are suggested as autocomplete keywords when users first go through the process of filling out a profile.

This might be an interesting way for Facebook to immediately excite and engage new users; at the outset, it doesn’t appear to be a creepy marketing ploy to help brands promote their pages and peddle their wares. Suggested pages for Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are on the list, indicating that Facebook is simply trying to keep up with current trends and actually popular pages when making suggestions.

What do you think of this change? Do you think it will help new folks see the point of using Facebook sooner in the adoption process? Do you think new users will understand that their profiles and “interests” are actually public pages, not private information?
