Star Wars: The Old Republic Release Date: September?

Star Wars: The Old Republic Release Date: September?: "

LucasArts And BioWare Weighing Price Structures For Star Wars: The Old Republic

According to sources quoted by MCV.com, Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out a bit later than originally thought. MCV's "development sources" say that SW: TOR's release date is in September. While no official release date has ever been announced, comments made by EA head John Riccitiello suggested a Spring 2011 release date was likely.

No matter when The Old Republic hits stores, there's a lot riding on this game. It's a game release on a massive scale -- the scale of a combination of developer's-developer Bioware and the Star Wars Universe in a persistent game can not be overstated. So there's a lot on the positive side of the ledger for SW: TOR... but there are some pretty huge negatives as well.

Challenged facing The Old Republic:

  • There's the cost of developing a full-scale MMO. Supposedly, over 300 million bucks have already been spent on building The Old Republic, so they'll need a lot of subscriptions.

  • There is already a Star Wars MMO. People who follow the gaming industry closely might understand how different a Bioware Star Wars MMO is from SOE's Star Wars: Galaxies, but will the average consumer?

  • World of Warcraft: the huge variety of people who play MMOs play World of Warcraft. Will The Old Republic be able to lure enough hardcore WoW-heads to make their nut?

What do you guys think? Are you ready for Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Lost Command #1 (Douglas Wheatleycover): "Still haunted by the events in Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader must set aside his past and put his future on hold for a mission to the mysterious Ghost Nebula to locate--and if possible, rescue--a missing Imperial expeditionary force.

But what seems a perfect opportunity to lose himself in his duty is complicated by two factors: he is paired with a willful yet highly competent co-commander, and the officer they are being sent to locate is the son of Vader’s rising nemesis, Moff Tarkin.

Planets of Star Wars the old republic: Nar Shaddaa

Planets of Star Wars the old republic: Nar Shaddaa: "
Nar Shaddaa was the largest moon of Nal Hutta. More commonly known as the Vertical City, the Smuggler's Moon and Little Coruscant, Nar Shaddaa was similar to Coruscant in that its surface was entirely overgrown with city sprawl since 24,500 BBY But unlike Coruscant – which was only relatively dangerous on the lower levels of the world city – Nar Shaddaa was filthy, polluted, and infested with crime throughout.

History

When the Hutts left their homeworld of Varl, they displaced the Evocii, native to Nal Hutta, to Nar Shaddaa in 25,000 BBY and immediately destroyed the remaining Evocii agriculture after the Evocii's eviction from their own homeworld. Eventually the moon was annexed by the Hutts, who started to force the Evocii into slave labor, building spaceports and docking bays across its surface, some stretching out into orbit. Although the moon's urbanized construction had just started, it quickly began to prosper, along with Nal Hutta.

In 24,500 BBY the moon was completely urbanized, and the Evocii were finally free since their work was complete. It rivaled the galactic capital Coruscant as an important center of interstellar trade and continued to grow. Ancient refueling spires and loading docks reached out from the native soil and some built in the upper atmosphere. In between these ports, massive vertical cities grew. The urban areas on Nar Shaddaa were known as vertical cities since new layers of housing and entertainment buildings were built on top of older layers, like Coruscant and another urban world Taris.

In 24,000 BBY when the trade lanes shifted, Nar Shaddaa and its planet became obselete and were eventually abandoned by the Republic. It was also during this time that the Hutts relocated the Evocii in the undercity, since there was no longer any law enforcement by the Galactic Republic. The Evocii began to mutate into unwholesome savages due to various technologies practiced in the moon's undercity. However, the moon did not fall into disrepair entirely, since Nar Shaddaa and Nal Hutta allied itself with the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion, thus some prosperity still remained. This new prosperity lasted all the way through the Tionese War, which lasted an entire century.

After the end of the Tionese War around 23,900 BBY, Nar Shaddaa became a criminal haven and gained a reputation of being the center of illegal operations in the galaxy, earning the moniker 'The Smugglers' Moon'. While much of Coruscant was filled with gleaming apartments and well-maintained skywalks, the entire moon that was Nar Shaddaa was dominated by decaying urban landscape and congested, polluted cities. Now distant from most galactic trade centers, the moon was allowed to run its own affairs with little outside interference.

The cityscape of Nar Shaddaa
The moon was protected by often malfunctioning planetary shields. Anything illegal elsewhere could be bought and sold on Nar Shaddaa, and many young smugglers, pirates and criminals started their careers on the Smugglers' Moon. Various sections of Nar Shaddaa were controlled by the Hutts and other criminal organizations.

Sections of the urbanized moon's vertical city included the Duros sector and the Corellian sector, which contained three bars popular with bounty hunters — the Burning Deck, the Slag Pit, and the Meltdown Café – as well as another corner tavern called the Orange Lady.

In 3,951 BBY, the moon was visited by the Jedi Exile in her search for Zez-Kai Ell, a Jedi Master who cast her out of the Jedi Order. After the Jedi Civil War ended, Nar Shaddaa became swarmed by thousands – if not millions – of refugees from destroyed worlds across the Galaxy, and still more ex-soldiers from both sides in the conflict choking up its spaces looking for work and / or new homes. Its refugee sector was one of the most crowded in the entire galaxy, and tightly controlled by the Exchange. The Exchange was exploiting the refugees to lure any remaining Jedi into their hands. The Exile did many things to hurt the Exchange – including killing Visquis, one of their criminal bosses – and eventually got captured by G0-T0. But her companions rescued her and they succeeded in destroying G0-T0's yacht, destabilizing the Exchange and other criminal organizations throughout the entire sector for many years.

Clone Wars: Katie Lucas Discusses Writing This Week's Episode

Clone Wars: Katie Lucas Discusses Writing This Week's Episode: "In 'Monsters,' which airs Friday night at 8:30PM ET/PT, Dooku seeks to replace Asajj Ventress with a new, deadlier apprentice. Little does he know that his new protégée – the formidable Savage Opress – has been selected by Ventress herself, and that the Nightsisters have used their witchcraft to transform the warrior into a monstrous killer without remorse, compassion or loyalty.

“I've really fallen for Ventress, and here the audience gets to learn a lot about her history. She's an extremely complicated character,” says Katie Lucas, writer of the three-part Nightsisters arc. “She’s a cold-hearted harpy, but she has good reason to be – and now she’s displaying a much more independent side of herself. Ventress is nobody's pawn anymore. She finally owns herself. I grew up on Buffy and Tank Girl, so writing for strong females is second nature to me. I listened to a lot of early Hole and"

MMO: Heaven or Hell?

MMO: Heaven or Hell?: "

I can't wait anymore! So close and it driving me crazy, I really love reading everyone's opinion or predictions of what might happen but it's 2011, YAY! Two years of being in aggravating pain in anticipation for the ultimate game of the next decade or this decade now. If SWTOR doesn't release soon I'll harakiri myself with bothan stunner. OK, that's off my chest, I'm ready for my review now :)

Will Star Wars: The Old Republic it be the greatest game everyone is waiting for? Yes! I want it to. No surprise there, but if it doesn't go well all hell will break loose and I mean that literally I will grab my plastic lightsaber and start seeing everyone else Bantha Fodder. But of coarse if it does go well you won't see any mmo lovers or Star Wars enthusiast (which are almost the same category with a few minor differences) for the next few months. Geek Squad will be off duty for those few months not playing games but uh... their family member was struck by a truck and they need to see them right away and will be with them for the time being.

Ok, jokes aside go read Scott Jennings blog about the tMMO landscape in 2011: 2011: WoW, Not WoW. Here is a snip:

If it succeeds, it will show that the “big iron” still works – throw as much meat as you can at the machine, and crank out a huge project, and spend your way to greatness. It will prove that the subscription model is still potentially the most lucrative way of monetizing an MMO, at least in the West. And everyone will breath a sigh of relief. The old gods still listen to our prayers, now shut up and find more virgins, we have to get the sacrifices ready for the next expansion pack.
If it fails, expect a rethinking everywhere.

Expect huge studios to throw everything at Facebook/casual gaming YESTERDAY, in a frenzied, and possibly futile attempt to survive. Expect it to be very difficult to fund new traditional MMO projects, as even the most clueless venture capitalist will remember news stories about EA and the Old Republic and how Blizzard was the exception that proved a rule. Expect free-to-play cash shop gaming to be The New Order for almost every MMO, launched or not. In short, expect the apocalypse in 2012.

And expect all the usual suspects to ignore all the games listed above that didn’t do that badly, because they’re still essentially statistical aberrations next to WoW.

2011 is the year of WoW: Not WoW. This is when those of us who still enjoy the old-school massive content-rich expensive-to-produce MMO (and I number myself among them) find out if we can have nice things.

Buy Cheap Star Wars: The Old Republic Credits... WTF?

Buy Cheap Star Wars: The Old Republic Credits... WTF?: "

Here is something strange. There is still a few month until Star Wars: The old republic will be released, but already the gold-sellers are setting up there shops ( and spamming my inbox). This morning I got a mail about Swtorcreditsale.com selling 1000 credits for only 10$ - what a bargain! They also have a professional Star Wars The Old Republic items Online store, that provide us with a wide range of SWTOR items.

I'm sure there will be plenty of gamers willing bankroll their way to a uber character, but do we know anything about the games currency system yet? Do we have imperial and republic credits? Will Nal Hutta and Nar Shaddaa have it's own money? Who knows

One thing is for sure, gold sellers starting up early means that they have high expectations of the game to. Is this a good or a bad thing?

Gamebreaker SWTOR Video Blog #22
Gamebreaker SWTOR Video Blog #22: "

We haven't followed the republic podcast for a while. Mainly becourse it haven't been that intereseting. But this week, the guys discussed the trooper class -- My favorite!

This one is a long one though so we have posted a short summary below the video.

Basically the podcast could be broken down as:
Trooper video analysis: They dislike the female trooper, the guy with glasses wants his trooper to be a bulky bad ass. Also they enjoy the grenade shot by the Trooper that knocks back the force leap.

Secondly they discuss what 'modular shield' means in reference to the Trooper's ship. They decide it either means interchangeable shields or damage would effect parts of the shield separately.

Recreation Center: They discuss what a recreation center on the space ships likely means and if they think it's cool. They guy with the bandana thinks a gym where you could workout would be cool, while the small guy with glasses dislikes the idea and wants his companions to be slaves. haha

Trooper Companion: Both of them like the trooper companion character and agree he's rather badass.

Running animation: They both agree that running looks ridiculous at the moment, as your lower half does not look connected to your top half. They hope it gets fixed soon.

Cinematic Cutscene: both love the CS and agree it's great that they strip away the user interface to enhance the experience.

1 voice per gender of each class: Both think there could be problems since you could have a party with two of the same gender and class and in the Voice overs, they would have the same voice. This could kill the scene they say. Decide that it might be possible to modify the voices slightly by pitch in order to increase variety.

They talk about the extensiveness of the voice over and how cool they think it is.

Next they discuss how people are confused about whether this game is single player or multiplayer, or rather RPG vs. MMO. They say it's so different from any other MMO that it's hard to understand for some people. The guy with the glasses says that he thinks strictly solo players may miss the MMO part, but once you group up it will be a multiplayer experience like nothing else out there. The guy with the bandana says SWTOR is like a Bioware RPG with an MMO universe rapped around it.

They are surprised that MSNBC has talked about the expectations for SWTOR, which is good mainstream media. They say the game could be 'HUGE.' Finally they discuss what possible mundane and repetitive features the game could have. The guy with the glasses says he thinks having your companions do your crafting could be lame, although he doesn't like having companions."
