When we reported on a Kinect sex game last week, we knew it was only a matter of time before Microsoft issued a statement to distance themselves with the project. The L.A. Times reports that Microsoft has issued a statement on the title, calling it out for being unlicensed and unauthorized use of their technology.
'This isn't the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won't be the last,' the statement read. 'Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use. Xbox is a family friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect.'
While it's a strong statement, it leaves the possibility of a PC release untouched. Windows 7 is an open platform, making AO games like the ones produced by ThriXXX fair game. Microsoft may have some legal recourse since it requires the use of their own proprietary device, but love -- even the creepy, dead-eyed virtual kind -- will probably find a way.
